SOCIAL INEQUALITY, HUNGER, AND THE CONTRIBUTION OF BRAZILIAN´S FAMILY FARMING COOPERATIVES TO IMPROVE LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS: THE CASE OF COOMAFITT
MORAIS, Leandro Pereira. Social inequality, hunger, and the contribution of Brazilian´s family farming cooperatives to improve local food systems: the case of COOMAFITT. Anais do 33º Congreso Internacional del CIRIEC, 2022.
Abstract
This study aims to present the case of the Mixed Cooperative of Family Farmers of Itati, Terra de Areia and Três Forquilhas (COOMAFITT), a family farming cooperative located in southern Brazil, addressing its dynamics, revenue and challenges. The case is part of the current concern regarding the increase in the difficulty of access to food for segments of the population, due to the crisis caused by the pandemic. This situation is seen with a model of production and marketing of food that is not truly inclusive and sustainable. In this sense, this work intends to show the role of family farming cooperatives, as an alternative and/or complementary model of production, drawing attention to the need for public support policies.
